Experience
To summit Mount Kilimanjaro, a certain level of physical fitness and mental determination is required. While prior mountaineering experience is not necessary, it is beneficial to have some hiking experience and be comfortable with long, strenuous treks. Additionally, it is important to have a positive mindset, adaptability and the ability to follow the slow pace set by your guide. Training and preparation, both physically and mentally, are key to increasing your chances of a successful summit. Please visit our training page for more information and our safety page for our safety protocol.
Why This Trip?
The BAC (Goombay Inc, Taylord Fitness and Adventure, Vantage Point Hiking, Hiking with the Bear, and Hike Weirdo) was formed by African American led outdoor adventure groups based in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area of the north eastern US. With a passion for the outdoors, bringing together history, experience, knowledge, style, culture, and fun. Our goal is to provide unique outdoor experiences to the community.
We have enlisted Soraka Tours to curate an unforgettable experience. This journey offers multiple adventures from hiking through diverse landscapes to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, to a Tanzanian safari of some of Africa’s remarkable ecosystems and wildlife, to time spent enjoying the idyllic beaches, culture and history of Zanzibar.
Whether you choose the Kilimanjaro hiking adventure, or all three options, this trip will provide multiple opportunities to gather knowledge, bond with fellow climbers and plan for the adventure through preparatory hikes, boot camp sessions, information sessions, interactive group chats, meet-n-greets, and much more.
May you be inspired to join us on this incredible journey that promises to be one of the highlights of your life.
