Experience
To summit Mount Kilimanjaro, a certain level of physical fitness and mental determination is required. While prior mountaineering experience is not necessary, it is beneficial to have some hiking experience and be comfortable with long, strenuous treks. Additionally, it is important to have a positive mindset, adaptability to altitude changes, and the ability to pace oneself during the climb. Training and preparation, both physically and mentally, are key to increasing the chances of a successful summit of Africa's highest peak. Please visit our training page for more information.
Why This Trip?
My name is Sophia and I am one of the co-founders of Soraka Tours. I am a Black Jamaican woman who has a passion for the outdoors. Over the past three years, I have had the incredible opportunity to summit Mount Kilimanjaro four times. During these expeditions, I noticed a strikingly low representation of Black women on the mountain. In fact, I only encountered three Black women who were not part of the mountain staff. Inspired and driven by this observation, I went on a mission to encourage more women who look like me to experience the thrill of hiking Mount Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro offers invaluable life lessons, teaching us that we possess inner strength and resilience beyond our imagination. Together, let's challenge the stereotype associated with Black women climbing mountains and inspire others to join us on this incredible journey.
