Experience
To summit Mount Kilimanjaro, a certain level of physical fitness and mental determination is required. While prior mountaineering experience is not necessary, it is beneficial to have some hiking experience and be comfortable with long, strenuous treks. Additionally, it is important to have a positive mindset, adaptability and the ability to follow the slow pace set by your guide. Training and preparation, both physically and mentally, are key to increasing your chances of a successful summit. Please visit our training page for more information and our safety page for our safety protocol.
Why This Trip?
My name is Sophia, one of the co-founders of Soraka Tours. My journey to Tanzania and Mount Kilimanjaro began when my then 18 year old son asked to climb Kilimanjaro as his high school graduation present. Despite having no camping or hiking experience, I decided to reward his hard work and agreed to the challenge. It turned out to be the best decision for both of us.
Kilimanjaro taught us valuable life lessons that my son applied to his college life. It taught him he can persevere by setting goals and working diligently, all in the face of adversity. The struggle Kilimanjaro offers will be temporary, but the rewards will be lifelong. This climb will push you beyond your limits but you will develop mental resilience and determination, qualities that will translate into all areas of your life. You will also connect with fellow adventurers who share your passion for exploration and adventure. You will forge forever friendships and hold cherished memories. I am overjoyed to join this new graduation class as each will wear their Cap and Gown to Kili's Crown. All are welcome!
