About Us
Welcome to Soraka Tours, we are dedicated to providing a safe and unforgetable adventure while supporting the local coummity. We offer superior safari excursions to all National Parks in Tanzania. We are an inclusive company that prides ourselves on providing top notch services in all areas of our tours. We equip ourselves with high quality mountain tents, mats and other necessary items needed for a safe and enjoyable adventure.
Soraka Tours strives to provide a fair working environment for our staff members. We realize that our staff members are instrumental in making your adventure possible. We strongly emphasize building a community filled with care. We pay our porters and guides above the required wage rate set by the Kilimanjaro National Park Authority (KINAPA) and Kilimanjaro Association of Tour Operators (KIATO). We provide essential climbing equipment to our mountain staff ensuring their wellbeing and safety standards are met.
We are deeply commited to giving back to the community. Our future plans include rebuilding schools and providing learning materials for each student. We are also dedicated to supporting orphanages by organizing fundraisers to fund each child’s daily needs. Our mission is to leave the community stronger than we met it, not just benefitting from Tanzania but giving back in full to the people who call this region home.
Baraka
Baraka has been a Kilimanjaro National Park (KINAPA) certified professional guide since 2003. His mountain journey began at the age of eighteen when he took on a job as a porter. Climb by climb, Baraka worked his way up, gaining experience with international tour companies while becoming proficient in English. Baraka and his team would go on to lead hundreds of successful Kilimanjaro treks, achieving a remarkable 97% summit rate. Seeing first hand a gap in local equity, Baraka started Soraka Tours a locally owned tour company that provides improved wages and growth opportunities for local porters, guides, chefs and servers. Baraka is intimately familiar with all aspects of Mt Kilimanjaro, guiding with professionalism while ensuring his clients' health, safety and security. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder (WFR), trained in recognizing and treating high altitude illnesses, administering basic life support (BLS), and advance planning of evacuation procedures. Throughout the challenging journey, Baraka and team are there to support you as you revel in the majesty of Mt Kilimanjaro.

Sophia
Our Chicago-based business manager Sophia ensures a smooth and effortless turnkey booking process while providing information on what to pack and what to expect. Sophia started her Kilimanjaro journey when her then eighteen year old son asked to climb Kilimanjaro together as his graduation present. Although she had neither hiking nor camping experience, she was willing to try something new. After summiting twice with Baraka’s guidance, she felt a deep connection with Kilimanjaro and its community, and then helped to build Soraka Tours as her way to share life restoring experiences in Tanzania.
The Team
We employ only the best Kilimanjaro has to offer.
Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro would not be possible without the help of our professional porters who speed by with stacks of supplies on their heads arriving at camp in advance of our clients. They carry everything including the kitchen sink … food, tents, sleeping bags, toilets, and even showers. Our well-trained chefs provide three daily delicious meals geared towards replenishing and refueling for the next day’s climb. Our experienced mountain guides are Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certified and have over 10 years of mountaineering experience individually. Our Safari guides hold certificates in Wildlife Management Studies.
